On the Hunt

One of the most fulfilling experiences of styling is watching the transformation and growth of those who discover the power of self expression through fashion.
Last year, around this time, I began working with high school girls on their prom ensembles. Through this experience, I was able to teach them how gratifying it is to stand out above the crowd.
Powerline sang it best.
Anyway.

It's that time again. Prom is coming and a new set of young ladies has taken the step to work toward their own invidualism.  On our first hunt, Tiffany (my right hand honey), and I were successful in finding some stellar pieces, but the most heart warming snipbits of the day were sights of young fashionistas in the making...

... why do thrift stores sell underwear?!

Gray This Way

The gray dress wanted to be showcased. However, it needed to develope a better plot, it was too boring performing solo. The incoming cast members needed to play a strong role, but not overpower, or even challenge the gray dress.  The brown riding boots brought in great support, tributed to their stature and depth. Next, the brown riding boots needed their own side story, to add dimension. So, the brown knee high socks with a slightly different tint, were casted. Now, the gray dress was feeling a bit timorous, watching this double layering action on the legs. The purse strap belt wrapped itself around the gray dress twice, securing its place in the outfit and tying all components together.
"What about me?" asked the long, lighter, gray cardigan. It didn't want to be left out of the story. So, onto the scene it came, matching the length of the gray dress, and admitting, although it was not the leading role, felt honored to be best supporting clothing item.

Genie Out of the Bottle

I don't know how to describe what I was feeling today, which has lasted until right now. A lot has been on my mind and I wanted to be in my own world and more importantly, comfortable. Sometimes I wish I was a genie, living in a beautiful lamp, indulge in my greatness, with the ability to blink and be somewhere else instantly.

My facial expression kinda says it all.

I love the richness in color, fit, and pattern of the top. It's extremely versatile and today was the first time I wore it with these genie/mc hammer pants. The turquoise silk scarf tied around my waist finished my story, making the mood almost whimsical. The shoes were once again, the perfect subtle addition.

Time for pajamas.  Sweet dreams.

Cheers to Newness!

Ta-Da!

And so It progresses.

New season, new blog. I've been talking about it for a while. Time for some action.  I can now only look forward to documenting the growth of It all.

So, let's jump into it.

"Playfully Smart"

'Twas a pleasant day, I could see the sunlight nosy-ing its way into my blinds as my alarm went off. Long day ahead; work, then meeting, than who knows what. I was feeling fun, yet sophisticated- quirky, yet serious.  Starting out with and then working around the red striped sweater, I found that the lightness in color and fabric of the trousers complimented the sweater's thickness and vibrancy.  Knowing that I was playing with a classical color palate, I dashed on neutral tones until completion. I was pretty zealous about the scarf tied under my collar as well- the florals on it played on the red from the sweater effortlessly.  It was the perfection twist to break the strong horizontal lines.

These are the shoes. They go with ALMOST ANYTHING. Really.
